float: right; width: 175px; height: 200px;" width="175" height="200" />a virtual location to rally around the discussion.

Most important, the modules you will want to download and install in your Drupal 6 install are:

CCK - www.drupal.org/project/cck

Views - www.drupal.org/project/views

Rules - www.drupal.org/project/rules

An additional module that extends the Rules module (and many others) is the Token module (www.drupal.org/project/token).

Notes
Once these are installed, administrators have a great deal of flexibility in configuring/creating content on a site, and then display that content in a number of ways that make sense for the specific use case. With the Rules module, administrators can configure a collection of actions based off a triggered event on the site. An example would be: send an email, and re-direct the user after they create new content. Very powerful stuff.

Feel free to add a comment/question if you like.

-Clint
http://www.thayernet.com/content/cckviewsrules-review#comments CCK Drupal DrupalCampWI Modules Rules Views Sat, 06 Jun 2009 18:39:58 +0000 clint 46 at http://www.thayernet.com DrupalCon DC WrapUp http://www.thayernet.com/content/drupalcon-dc-wrapup
Just a quick wrap up from my time down in DC last week. It was a great trip, and conference. Very different then previous conferences I've been too. Much less hard-core coding, and a great deal more general users. Some of the highlights are meeting some of the maintainers of the modules I've used the last few months to much delight. To my surprise they run the range on age and demography. One fellow was 13 years old and has come to be a pretty popular figure in the Drupal community. Others are a bit older, and as I found only live a few hours away. In the end, I had a great time hanging out with some old, and new friends, and feel a great deal more connected to the larger Drupal community in general. My book wish list is three, or four books deeper coming home as well, which can't be a bad thing!

I also had the chance to take some pictures the last full day I was in town. It turned out to be 70 degrees, and while a little overcast in the morning, the afternoon and evening gave a wonderful blue backdrop to some great photos. I walked about 9 miles total that day, and snapped about 300 photos. Have a look at a few of the ones I enjoyed

DC Photo Walk Early March 2009
http://www.thayernet.com/content/drupalcon-dc-wrapup#comments Artistic Photos Drupal Photos Travel Tue, 10 Mar 2009 01:34:33 +0000 clint 32 at http://www.thayernet.com DrupalCon DC http://www.thayernet.com/content/drupalcon-dc
Greetings all,

You all know I'm heading out today, but many have asked "What is Drupal?" so I thought I would try and fish out an semi nice answer. Just think of it as a bunch of code written by lots of different people in kind of co-op sort of way. This core code (Drupal 6.10) allows a quick basic site, but then also allows developers the ability to extend the functionality of the site with more code called modules. There are 1,000's of modules out there already, and more coming every day. It's pretty exciting to work with at the high "I want to run a web site" as well as the "I want to write modules, and extend the core" avenues. Anyway... that's my attempt to explain.

I'm really looking forward to learning more about Drupal to use it both at the department which runs Drupal 5 for its main site, as well as other stuff I seem to be playing with these days. Also looking forward to some networking and hanging out with some old friends.

Okay... I'm about to head off to the airport, but I'll try and post more if I can. I'll also be micro-blogging on Facebook as well. If I get some time, I might also do some micro-blogging on Twitter, but I'll post info on how to find that content if I go that route.

You can also keep an eye on this conference twitter feed, or visit the conference website as well.

http://www.thayernet.com/content/drupalcon-dc#comments Drupal Mon, 02 Mar 2009 16:53:15 +0000 clint 29 at http://www.thayernet.com
